Step 1: Schedule and upload your document
Start by booking an appointment. You’ll upload your document to the BlueNotary platform before the session. Make sure it’s complete except for your signature. Don’t sign it in advance.
Step 2: Verify your identity
Identity verification is one of the most important parts of any notarization. Before the session, you’ll complete identity verification on the BlueNotary platform. That includes scanning your valid government-issued photo ID and completing biometric identity verification. This confirms that you are who you say you are, without anyone needing to see your ID in person.
Step 3: Meet the notary on a live video call
Next, you’ll join a secure live video session with a commissioned Remote Online Notary. The notary will confirm your identity, make sure you understand what you’re signing, and confirm that you’re signing willingly. If your document requires witnesses, they may be able to join the session remotely.
Step 4: Sign electronically
You’ll sign the document electronically while the notary watches. The notary then applies their electronic signature and electronic notary seal to complete the notarization.
Step 5: Receive your notarized document
Once the session is complete, your notarized document is delivered to you electronically. You can download it, email it, or print it as needed.
Is it secure?
Yes. Remote online notarizations are completed on platforms designed specifically for notarization, not general video-calling apps. Sessions are recorded and kept as required by law, and the notary keeps a record of each notarization.
